The US has quite a substantial number of people of Iranian descent living there. They come here for a wide variety of reasons, form business to studies and so on and so forth. Life for these Iranian-Americans has turned sour following sanctions against Iran. The story behind these sanctions is not complex, Iran has just refused to adhere to pleas by the international community to cease from participating in a number of vices that are completely unacceptable and this has resulted in this precarious situation. These are vices like harboring, protecting and supporting terror groups and the manufacture of nuclear weapons among others. The EU, UN, US government among other international bodies have issued sanctions against Iran as a result of this. These sanctions have been meted out against Iran since the 1970’s but have only recently started to get even more serious.

Iran is being affected by these sanctions and Iran’s economy is getting a hit. The effects are also being felt by the people of Iranian descent living elsewhere in the world and more so those that are living in the US. One of the major problems being unemployment. So, what are the results of the sanctions against Iran on the Iranian descent living in the US?

Not only have the employed been affected but even those who own businesses in the US. Because exports and imports are what the business community depends on, the sanction has greatly affected how business is done and if it is done at all. These Iranian-American businessmen who have already established a market or their source of goods from Iran or vice versa cannot get to it. The US government targeted the import and export market knowing what it would do to the economy of Iran. To make matters worse for these people, some avoid buying from them because they don’t know exactly what the sanction prohibits and don’t want to take any chances.

Iranian-Americans who had ties with their relatives back home have been forced to cut them because they cannot even send gifts to each other. Some of these Iranian-Americans sent funds to their elderly parents in Iran but cannot do this anymore. If you decide that you have to still send money, you would have to carry money in suitcases because banks would not do transfers. Some banks have tried to support these Iranian-Americans but they have found themselves in trouble.

Because of the sanction, getting access to property or inheritance in Iran is impossible. It would have been better if you could hire a lawyer to help with your business in Iran but this is also prohibited.
